The fifth and decisive T20 match of the five-match series between India and the West Indies is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru today. With the two teams level at 2-2 after the first four matches, the final T20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has become a series decider. Against this backdrop, a social media post by young cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has gone viral.
Vaibhav has not featured in a single match of the series against the West Indies so far. Instead, he has been serving the team primarily as a water boy. Ahead of the fifth T20I, Vaibhav shared a photograph on his Instagram Story with the caption ‘Still Believing’. The post appears to suggest that he remains hopeful of getting an opportunity to play.

Vaibhav made his international debut during India’s tour of England but was dropped from the team after playing just two matches. He subsequently impressed with sensational batting performances during the Zimbabwe tour, winning the Player of the Series award. However, in the following series against Afghanistan, he was left on the bench for all three matches.
The same situation has continued in the ongoing series against the West Indies. With Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma currently opening the innings, Vaibhav has been unable to find a place in the playing XI.
Since the fifth T20I is a series decider, the chances of changing the opening combination appear slim. Consequently, Vaibhav is unlikely to feature in this match as well.

Reports suggest that India head coach Gautam Gambhir has already made his position on Vaibhav’s situation clear. The team management reportedly intends to continue backing the opening combination that helped India win the World Cup, meaning Vaibhav will have to wait for his opportunity.
For now, the young cricketer continues to wait patiently for his chance to prove himself at the international level, holding on to hope with his message: ‘Still Believing’.
