Controversy Surrounds Hyderabad's TG20 League Ahead of First Season

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), which has often faced allegations of corruption and administrative issues, is finally set to launch its first-ever state-based T20 tournament, the TG20 League. However, just days before the inaugural edition is scheduled to begin, the tournament has found itself at the center of a fresh controversy.

Allegations On TG20 Stars

The latest allegations have been made by the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), raising serious questions over the legality of the league. According to TCA officials, the TG20 League has not received approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), making it an unauthorized tournament. These claims have cast uncertainty over the league's future ahead of its scheduled launch.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Telangana Cricket Association General Secretary Dharam Guruvareddy alleged that the TG20 Governing Council was formed without the approval of the Hyderabad Cricket Association's Annual General Meeting (AGM). He claimed that the appointments made under the governing council were therefore invalid.

Guruvareddy also warned that everyone associated with the tournament could face legal consequences if the league proceeds under the current structure.

He further revealed that legal notices had been issued to actor Vijay Deverakonda, who is serving as the league's brand ambassador. According to the TCA, notices are also being sent to veteran actor Venkatesh, HCA Head of Cricket Operations Ambati Rayudu, and Indian cricketers Mohammed Siraj and Tilak Varma, who are associated with the tournament.

The TCA also alleged that members of a Chief Minister's family and the son of a state minister had acquired franchise rights in an attempt to bring political influence into cricket. However, no official evidence supporting these allegations has been made public.

Despite the controversy, preparations for the inaugural TG20 League have already been completed. The participating franchises have announced their captains, and all arrangements for the tournament are reportedly in place. The fresh allegations have now raised questions over whether the competition will proceed as scheduled.

State-level T20 leagues have become increasingly popular across India, providing talented cricketers from rural and grassroots backgrounds with an important platform to showcase their skills. Many players have used these tournaments as a stepping stone to earn opportunities in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After overcoming several administrative challenges, the Hyderabad Cricket Association is finally on the verge of launching its first state T20 league. However, with legal disputes and fresh allegations emerging just before the opening season, all eyes are now on how the HCA responds and whether the TG20 League can begin without further obstacles.
