Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Chaminda Vaas has received his first coaching opportunity in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Delhi Capitals have appointed Vaas as their fast-bowling coach for the 2027 IPL season. He is set to take on an important role in the franchise’s new coaching setup.
Vaas boasts an outstanding record for Sri Lanka, having taken 355 wickets in Test cricket and 400 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He will join the coaching staff led by Delhi Capitals’ new head coach, Sourav Ganguly. The franchise recently appointed Yuvraj Singh as its assistant and batting coach.

Chaminda Vaas will take over the responsibilities from Munaf Patel, who served as Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach over the past two seasons. The 52-year-old Vaas has previously worked as the bowling coach of the Sri Lankan men’s team on three separate occasions.
His coaching career began with New Zealand. He subsequently served as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach from 2013 to 2015. During the 2016 T20 World Cup, he took up the role of bowling coach for Ireland before rejoining Sri Lanka’s coaching staff later in his career.
Vaas also has experience as an IPL player. He represented the Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010, taking 18 wickets in 13 matches.
