T20I World Record: West Indies Create a New World Record; India Just Three Sixes Away from History!

Although West Indies lost the third T20I against India, they achieved a rare world record. West Indies became the first team in international T20 cricket to cross the milestone of 2,000 sixes. Team India is in second place with 1,997 sixes. India needs just three more sixes to join the 2,000-sixes club.

In the third T20I against India in Indore, West Indies batters smashed a total of 13 sixes. As a result, the team moved to the top of the list with 2,010 sixes in T20 Internationals. In the same match, Indian batters hit eight sixes, taking India's overall tally to 1,997.

India and West Indies have no shortage of power hitters in T20 cricket. This is why the two teams are far ahead of other nations in terms of the number of sixes hit. New Zealand occupies third place with 1,585 sixes, trailing India by a massive 412 sixes.

The rankings for the most sixes in T20 Internationals are as follows:

India Defeat West Indies by 14 Runs in the Third T20I

West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss in the third T20I and elected to bowl first. Batting first, India posted a massive total, thanks to a blistering half-century from opener Abhishek Sharma. Team India scored 223 runs in its allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 224, West Indies managed only 209 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Shimron Hetmyer scored 43 runs off 26 balls, while Kamal Pooran fought hard with 42 runs off 27 balls. Towards the end, Shamar Springer came close to turning the game around, smashing an unbeaten 35 runs off just 11 balls. However, he could not take West Indies across the finish line.

Among the Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh played a crucial role by claiming three wickets, while Naman Dhir picked up two wickets. India eventually secured a 14-run victory.

India Take a 2–1 Lead in the Five-Match Series

With this victory, India took a 2–1 lead in the five-match T20I series. West Indies had stunned India in the second T20I by chasing down a huge target, but failed to complete the chase in the third match.

For the first time in the ongoing series, the team batting first successfully defended its total.

While India celebrated its third-match victory and strengthened its position in the series, West Indies created history by crossing the 2,000-sixes milestone.

India are now just three sixes away from achieving the same rare feat. With the team so close to the milestone, India could potentially join the 2,000-sixes club in the very next match.
