BCCI has invited fresh applications for the post of Team India’s chief selector has fallen vacant. At exactly this time, a small comment made by Indian star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has gone viral on social media.
The BCCI recently posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account inviting applications for the selector’s post. Jadeja responded to the post in a humorous way, asking, “What is the process to apply, bhaiya?” Although Jadeja made the comment purely as a joke, it gave cricket fans something to laugh about amid the ongoing excitement over who will become the next chief selector.
Can Jadeja really apply for the post?
According to BCCI rules, active cricketers cannot hold positions in the administration or selection committee. The Conflict of Interest rules prevent active players from taking up such roles. Moreover, candidates applying for the selector’s position must have significant international cricket experience and must have retired from all forms of cricket for at least five years.

Jadeja retired from T20 internationals after the 2024 T20 World Cup, but he continues to play international cricket in Tests and ODIs and remains active in the IPL, representing Rajasthan Royals. Therefore, under BCCI regulations, he is not eligible for the chief selector’s position.
Ajit Agarkar Steps Down as Chief Selector
The chief selector’s position became vacant after former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar stepped down from his role. Agarkar had served as the chairman of the men’s selection committee since 2023 and remained in the position for more than three years.

During his tenure, Indian cricket achieved several major successes. The teams selected under Agarkar’s leadership played a key role in India winning the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, as well as the 2025 Champions Trophy. He was also involved in selecting the Indian team that reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
Following the completion of his tenure, the BCCI issued a special note thanking Agarkar for his services. The board highlighted several memorable achievements during his tenure, including three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles, two consecutive Asian Games gold medals, and India’s appearance in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
The BCCI also expressed its gratitude for Agarkar’s commitment and contribution as chairman of the men’s selection committee and wished him the very best for the future.
Meanwhile, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir also praised Agarkar in a post on X.
