India Champions suffered a setback in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026 as South Africa Champions defeated them by four wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Batting first, India Champions posted an impressive total of 196/8 in 20 overs. However, South Africa Champions successfully chased down the challenging target to secure a memorable victory.
Robin Uthappa Smashes a Blazing 77
India Champions opener Robin Uthappa was in sensational form, taking the attack to the South African bowlers. He smashed 77 runs off just 31 balls, including six fours and six sixes, at an outstanding strike rate of 248.39. His explosive innings laid the foundation for India's big total before he was dismissed by Imran Tahir.

The other opener, Ambati Rayudu, scored 19 runs off 19 balls, hitting one four and one six. However, captain Yuvraj Singh failed to make an impact, departing for a golden duck off the very first ball he faced against Shaun von Berg.
Following Uthappa's dismissal, Stuart Binny played a crucial role in strengthening India's innings. Binny scored a quickfire 50 off 30 balls, smashing two fours and five sixes. The powerful performances from Uthappa and Binny helped India Champions build a formidable total.
Yusuf Pathan Adds Valuable Runs
Towards the end of the innings, Yusuf Pathan contributed 24 runs off 23 balls, including two sixes, while Irfan Pathan scored eight runs. Rishi Dhawan added four runs, Abhimanyu Mithun remained unbeaten on two, and Pawan Negi scored eight.
India Champions eventually finished at 196/8 in their allotted 20 overs. For South Africa Champions, Imran Tahir, Shaun von Berg and Hardus Viljoen claimed two wickets each. Wayne Parnell and Marchant de Lange picked up one wicket apiece.
Richard Levi Provides South Africa with a Flying Start
Chasing a challenging target of 197, South Africa Champions got off to an aggressive start through Richard Levi, who scored 24 runs off just 12 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Faf du Plessis contributed 20 runs off 16 deliveries.
However, captain AB de Villiers failed to open his account, falling for a duck to Piyush Chawla. The crucial wicket gave India Champions a much-needed breakthrough and briefly raised hopes of a comeback.
Jean-Paul Duminy and Colin Ingram Lead the Chase
At a crucial stage of the innings, Jean-Paul Duminy took charge and launched a counterattack against the Indian bowlers. He smashed 66 runs off just 34 balls, hitting two fours and seven sixes to keep South Africa firmly on course for victory.
Morne van Wyk contributed 14 runs, while Colin Ingram delivered another important performance. Ingram scored a blistering 40 off 24 balls, including three fours and three sixes, bringing South Africa Champions closer to the target.
The aggressive batting from Duminy and Ingram shifted the momentum decisively in South Africa's favour and made the chase considerably easier.
Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen Seal the Victory
Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen finished the job for South Africa Champions. Parnell remained unbeaten on 12 off eight balls, hitting two fours, while Viljoen scored an unbeaten nine off just four deliveries, including a six.
South Africa Champions reached 198/6 in 18.5 overs, completing the chase with seven balls to spare and securing a four-wicket victory over India Champions.
