Temba Bavuma: South African captain Temba Bavuma has suffered his first-ever Test defeat as captain. In the opening match of the three-Test series against Australia on October 13, South Africa lost by a massive 214-run margin. The defeat brought an end to Bavuma’s unbeaten run as captain. However, despite suffering his first loss, the rare world record he had already established remains intact.

Bavuma has captained South Africa in 13 Test matches so far. In his first 12 Tests, he remained unbeaten, registering 11 victories and one draw. This impressive record also includes South Africa’s victory in the ICC World Test Championship final. However, after losing the 13th Test against Australia, Bavuma finally experienced his first defeat as captain.

By winning 11 of his first 12 Tests as captain, Temba Bavuma set a world record. He surpassed the record previously held by former England captain Mike Brearley. Between 1977 and 1978, Brearley secured 10 victories in his first 15 Tests as captain. Bavuma, however, achieved 11 wins in just 12 matches, breaking that record.

Bavuma’s achievement of winning 11 of his first 12 Tests as captain will remain a memorable milestone in cricket history. Although he has now suffered his first defeat, his remarkable record will continue to stand.

In the first Test, Australia's batters delivered outstanding performances. Australia scored 390 runs in their first innings, powered by a magnificent 190-run knock from Matt Renshaw. South Africa were subsequently bowled out for 284 runs in their first innings, giving Australia a 106-run lead.

Australia's batters continued their impressive performance in the second innings, scoring 314 runs before declaring. This set South Africa a massive target of 421 runs to win.

However, South Africa were bowled out for just 206 runs during the chase, handing Australia a commanding 214-run victory.
