Team India star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showcased his batting prowess in the Ranji Trophy. Representing Saurashtra in their match against Chhattisgarh in Rajkot, Jadeja impressed with a brilliant century. Displaying great patience at the crease, he scored 102 runs off 209 balls, hitting seven boundaries. Notably, this was Jadeja’s 16th century in first-class cricket.

Jadeja came to the crease when Saurashtra had lost three wickets for just 120 runs. With the team in need of a substantial innings, he avoided taking unnecessary risks and batted cautiously. Scoring at a strike rate of around 48, he helped put Saurashtra in a stronger position.

Alongside Jadeja, Prerak Mankad also delivered an outstanding performance. Their crucial partnership played a significant role in helping Saurashtra post a formidable total. Mankad scored 129 runs off 150 balls, while Chirag Jani impressed with 83 runs. As a result, Saurashtra posted a massive total of 392 runs in their first innings.

An interesting coincidence occurred during Jadeja’s innings: the bowler who dismissed him was also named Jadeja. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who previously represented Saurashtra, is now playing for Chhattisgarh. He dismissed Ravindra Jadeja for 102 runs.

Among Chhattisgarh’s bowlers, Dev Aditya Singh delivered the best performance, claiming five wickets. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Rudra Pratap Dihari picked up two wickets each, while Sandeep Warrier, who has played one match for India, claimed one wicket.

After bowling out Saurashtra for 392 runs, Chhattisgarh began their first innings but suffered an early setback. Opener Sanidhya Hurkat struck a boundary off the very first ball he faced but was dismissed on the second delivery. He was caught by Samar Gajjar off the bowling of Chetan Sakariya.

At the time of reporting, Chhattisgarh were struggling at 34/2 after 11 overs.
