The BCCI has announced a new captain to lead India’s T20 team for the next two years, marking the beginning of a new era in Indian T20 cricket. Keeping the future in mind and aiming to build a team capable of handling the increasing competition in the shortest format, the selection committee appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain.

As a result, Suryakumar Yadav has been removed not only from the captaincy but also from the squad selected for the upcoming series. This means that despite leading India to a T20 World Cup title this year, Suryakumar has lost both his leadership role and his place in the team.

There is, however, a strong reason behind the decision. Although Suryakumar led the Indian team brilliantly, his batting performances have been disappointing. Over the past year, he has struggled both at home and overseas, managing only three half-centuries. His poor form continued in the recent IPL and the ongoing Mumbai T20 League, drawing criticism from fans as well.

Considering these factors and the team's future requirements, the selectors decided to make this difficult call, according to chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Agarkar also stated that such tough decisions are sometimes necessary for the long-term benefit of the team.

Despite the decision, Suryakumar’s record as captain has been outstanding. He did not lose a single series as India’s T20 captain and recorded 42 wins in 52 matches, giving him a success rate of over 80%. Under his leadership, India won the Asia Cup last year and the T20 World Cup this year. However, the World Cup has ultimately turned out to be the final chapter of his captaincy tenure.

After being removed as T20 captain, Suryakumar responded on social media with remarkable sportsmanship. He expressed his full support for Team India as it begins a new chapter and extended his heartfelt wishes to the young squad. He also shared a photo of the new team on his Instagram Story, wishing them success in the future.
