R Praggnanandhaa becomes first Indian to win Norway Chess Tournment

The prestigious Norway Chess Championship is is just Finished in Norway, and Indian chess grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has created history in the tournament. Entering the event as one of the hot favorites from the very beginning, Praggnanandhaa ultimately overcame a field of world-class players to claim the Norway Chess title.

Most notably, in the final four classical games, he defeated top stars including Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, and D Gukesh. Meanwhile, American grandmaster Wesley So, who had been leading the tournament standings, drew his remaining matches and finished in second place.

In the final round, Praggnanandhaa defeated German player Vincent Keymer to clinch the Norway Chess title for the first time in his career. With this achievement, he also became the first Indian player to win the prestigious tournament, creating a new chapter in chess history.

Since its inception in 2013, the tournament has featured Indian Chess Legend Viswanathan Anand as well as current world champion D Gukesh. However, neither of them managed to win the championship. Playing in the tournament for only the second time, Praggnanandhaa exceeded all expectations and captured the coveted Norway Chess crown.
