Rohit Achieves Another Record

Senior Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has added another milestone to his illustrious career. In the first ODI against Afghanistan national cricket team at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Rohit became only the second Indian player to complete 16,000 runs as an opener, setting a new record. The "Hitman," who already has numerous records to his name, has now achieved yet another remarkable feat.

Before Rohit, former Indian batting great Virender Sehwag held the top spot among Indian openers. Overall, Rohit became the seventh player in cricket history to reach this milestone. Interestingly, Rohit began his career as a middle-order batter before being promoted to the opening slot by MS Dhoni. Since then, he has never looked back.

Rohit Sharma T20I Career

For nearly a decade, Rohit has been opening the innings for India across all three formats and has accumulated records with remarkable consistency. In ODIs, he is the only player to have scored three double centuries, with a highest individual score of 264 runs, a record that still remains unbeaten.

Rohit has also left a significant mark in T20 cricket. Having played 159 T20 Internationals, he scored five centuries, showcasing his dominance in the format. However, after leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, he announced his retirement from T20 Internationals.

Now focusing primarily on ODIs, Rohit has so far scored 16,009 runs as an opener in 359 matches, including 45 centuries and 83 half-centuries.

Ahead of Rohit on the list is Virender Sehwag, who scored 16,119 runs as an opener for India, making him the highest-scoring Indian opener. Rohit now needs just 110 more runs to surpass Sehwag and claim the top position.

With this latest achievement, Rohit's fans are understandably delighted and celebrating yet another landmark in his career.
