England cricket has found itself at the centre of an ICC investigation after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a dressing-room video of Ben Stokes announcing his retirement from international cricket during the ongoing third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
According to reports, Stokes informed his teammates of his decision before the start of play on Day 4, and the emotional speech was filmed by the ECB media team. However, the footage was published on social media and shared with broadcasters while the match was still in progress, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to contact the ECB over a possible breach of its Players' and Match Officials' Areas (PMOA) regulations.
The ICC's regulations prohibit the use of recording equipment inside team dressing rooms for broadcasting purposes and do not allow such footage to be released during live match play. The governing body has reportedly written to the ECB seeking an explanation, with any punishment expected to be limited to a warning or financial penalty rather than severe disciplinary action. Stokes himself is not believed to have been responsible for the video's release.
