Team India is currently going through a major slump in international cricket. No matter where they play, the results are simply not going their way. The criticism reached a new high after India lost the T20I series against Ireland. Not only did India lose matches to a relatively smaller cricketing nation, but they also lost a bilateral T20I series to Ireland for the first time in history, leaving fans and experts furious.
To make matters worse, India failed to bounce back in the subsequent five-match T20I series against England, suffering another disappointing series defeat. The back-to-back losses have triggered heavy criticism of both the players and the coaching staff. According to reports, the BCCI is now considering changes to the coaching setup after the team failed to win a single match across the two series.
Gambhir's Close Associate Set to Leave?
Reports suggest that Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, who is considered one of head coach Gautam Gambhir's closest associates, is likely to step down from his role. The primary reason is believed to be the demanding travel schedule. It is reported that Ten Doeschate has informed the BCCI that travelling with the Indian team throughout the year has become increasingly difficult, making his exit a strong possibility.
Meanwhile, bowling coach Morne Morkel's future is also uncertain. With his current contract nearing its end, reports indicate that the BCCI will soon decide whether to continue with him or appoint a replacement.
In addition, fielding coach T. Dilip is also reportedly under scrutiny. India's below-par fielding performances in recent matches have raised concerns, and the board is said to be considering action regarding his position as well.
A clearer picture regarding the future of the coaching staff is expected after the ODI series against England, which begins on July 14. Following two consecutive series defeats, Team India is under tremendous pressure. Coupled with the disappointment of losing two Test series at home, the BCCI is reportedly reviewing the team's overall direction and support staff.
With criticism mounting from all quarters, all eyes are now on the upcoming ODI series, where India will be hoping to make a strong comeback and silence its critics.
