Four wins in four matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors this season, all of them away from home. Their next four matches will be at home and they'll certainly be eyeing a top-two finish, given the all-round strength in their squad. On the other hand, not a good result for TKR on Trinidad and Tobago's Independence Day. They have just two wins in seven matches but are still in contention for the playoffs. Tahir (2/2): [On staying disciplined] We don't want to take things for granted. We need to play every game like it's our last game, and especially when you're in a competition like that, you had a great start, especially when we're going home, and the way we've been helping each other to getting over the line. I think we just need to keep doing that and just keep looking forward one game at a time, and then we'll take it from there. We've been on the road. It's not easy. We know that, but these four games were really crucial for us, and I'm really proud of the boys. We won all four, so going home is going to be a good joy, but like I said, we have to restart again. [On Mohammad Nabi's availability for the remainder of the season] He's going to be with us for a couple of games. He's been an absolute legend. He's been bowling really, really well. So we're going to miss him, but I think we just want to wish him all the best because he's been really good for us.
Imran Tahir (1/2): [On the team's consistency despite a demanding schedule] I think credit goes to everyone, our coaching staff, players. Like I said, we work really hard. We had a break, which was a very long break and we can drift sometimes. Caribbean is a beautiful place. We go and forget about our training and stuff. But I think the purpose for us to be here, to enjoy each other's success. We've got a great team culture, and with a couple of seniors, some juniors coming through, and that's what we're trying to teach our youngsters and ourselves when we're at training, that whenever we train, our focus is we need to train how we're going to play, obviously going forward in all the games. [On Shimron Hetmyer's match-winning knock] Hetty is a very special player. Maybe he's not been in great form in the last six months, but the class stays forever and the way he came today, he showed his class. Really happy for him but he's been batting brilliantly. Even in training, he's really focusing. He never missed one training session. So, it's really nice to see the hard work he put in, he's getting the reward. We always knew, even though we had a rain, but I think this ground is quite tough, especially for spinners, and especially if you lose the toss, bowling second, we changed three balls, and it's not easy. But still, credit goes to the other team batters. They played really smart, and it was a close game. I'm sure everyone enjoyed the game, but look, Hetty was really special tonight.
Pooran (2/2): [On the team's approach for the remainder of the season] We're very optimistic, to be honest. T20 cricket is really funny. We have three games left. If we can win three games and get ourselves into ten points, you never know. Some results have to go our way as well. Other teams are still trying to figure it out as well. So that puts us in a decent position, but for now, we just need to focus on ourselves and find a way to win games, and once we can do that, that's all we can probably hope for, right? [On Kieron Pollard's fitness and possible return] Not sure, but he's a tough guy. Obviously, he's trying his best to get back, get back into full fitness for the next game. So we're very optimistic that he plays as well. We need his experience and his skill as well. So looking forward to seeing him back on the park as soon as possible.
Nicholas Pooran (1/2): It's tough to obviously lose, and we know how T20 cricket go. We know we've been struggling this year to put a perfect game together and get on the right side of the results, but such is the nature of T20 cricket. [On the challenges with seam bowling] It's been very challenging for us. We've tried a lot of different bowlers as well. Obviously Lahiru flying in yesterday from Sri Lanka and playing today as well, which is a great effort. But yeah, we struggle big time when it comes to the fast bowling department, and we've obviously paid some expensive prices there, but in saying that again, it's fine. Guys are getting opportunities to play, and we hope that is a learning curve for them. [On the impact of rain during the game] As you can see in other games as well, here in Trinidad the last couple of days, there's a lot of rain around. Our team is built around spinners, and it definitely don't help when the ball gets wet and the umpires only change it probably once for us, right? So that doesn't help. So for us, that's something we have to accept and try to figure out different ways. For now, we just haven't found the right answer to complement our spinners as well. Even the last game, you see the rain come in the wrong time there. So it's one where a lot of things haven't gone our way, and all we can do is really accept it.
Shimron Hetmyer | Player of the Match: [On leaving the field and his fitness] I'm good. It's just a little bit of cramp. It's been a while that I've actually batted that long, so my body still has to adjust to it. [On the approach after the rain break] Honestly, there wasn't really much discussion inside, to be fair. As much as we know the uphill task that we have, which is to come here and beat TKR in Trinidad. So the plan was for us just to go back out with a positive mindset, and if the ball is there in your area, you put it away. If not, you try as much as possible to rotate the strike, and I guess from then on, the plan was really, really easy. [On the tactical approach behind his knock] I think the guys in my life, they did play a big part in, when I'm away from it, after the first game, a lot of them, they came to me and they were like, 'Just give yourself a few more balls. Just give yourself some time, and you can always catch up by the end.' And that's something that I'm trying to do now, and trying as much as possible to stay there and see how much I can get when it comes to the slog overs at the end. [On GAW's vision for the CPL] Honestly, we're not thinking that far ahead as it is right now. It's just, as it is right now, we've only played four games, so we're just taking it one game at a time and do our best every single time, trying to give our best performances every time, our best 11 on the park all the time, and just trying to make sure that when we're out there, we're enjoying each other's company and enjoy each other's success as well.
22:06 Local Time, 02:06 GMT, 07:36 IST: The clash between the two most consistent teams didn't quite live up to the hype. Yes, the margin of win may be just 9 runs, but Guyana Amazon Warriors were in full control of this game. After losing two wickets in the powerplay and enduring a 90+ minute rain delay, Shimron Hetmyer played a blinder. The left-hander combined class with power-hitting to record his second CPL hundred off just 40 deliveries. Romario Shepherd played a little cameo as well and the visitors finished on 185/5 in 16 overs. Chasing a DLS revised target of 182, TKR couldn't afford to waste any time. Munro got going with a few boundaries, Narine fell cheaply and Pooran came out all guns blazing. The 50 was up in the fifth over. Nabi turned the match on its head by taking three quick wickets, including the prized scalp of Pooran. When Tahir trapped Justin Greaves lbw, TKR were reduced to 68/5 in the 8th over. Hales and Akeal forged a 43-run partnership for the sixth wicket but the required run rate kept climbing. Hales notched up his first fifty of the season off 23 balls and and Joshua Da Silva struck three boundaries which helped TKR to reduce the margin of defeat.
