Arsenal, who ended a 22-year wait to win the Premier League title, have made a major decision by dismissing their Head of Sports Medicine, Dr. Zafar Iqbal. The move has quickly become a hot topic in football circles.
Reports suggest that the decision may have been influenced by Arsenal's defeat in the Champions League final. In addition, despite winning the Premier League, the club was reportedly unhappy with the number of injuries suffered by players throughout the season. As a result, chief executive Richard Garlick is understood to have informed the 51-year-old Dr. Iqbal during a recent meeting that he would be leaving his position.
Before joining Arsenal, Dr. Iqbal worked with Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool. He is also currently serving as the chairman of the Football Association Medical Society, making his dismissal even more surprising.
While Arsenal enjoyed tremendous success on the domestic stage by becoming Premier League champions, the club fell short in European competition, suffering disappointment in the Champions League.
